Senator Sullivan and Rep. Begich Tried and Failed to Cover Up ‘Big Ugly’ Cuts to Health Care

Washington D.C. – Politico reports that the “political bill for Republicans’ health care agenda is coming due earlier than they’d hoped”, adding “Republicans’ signature legislation from Trump 2.0 — 2025’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act — ensured that its tax cuts were immediate while its controversial cuts to Medicaid and other health care programs wouldn’t take effect until after the midterm elections. … But for many, it has already arrived. Millions of people have lost their Obamacare insurance following Republicans’ decision to allow Covid-era subsidies to expire last year, and the premiums for many of those who remained have skyrocketed.”

Still no apology from Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and Nick Begich (R-AK-AL) for enthusiastically voting ‘yes” to less health care for those who need it most in exchange for more tax breaks for those who need them least.

“Senator Sullivan and Rep. Begich tried to pull a fast one,” said Save My Care president Brad Woodhouse. “They gave trillion-dollar tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations up front and hoped everyday families wouldn’t notice they’re the ones paying the piper with higher premiums or lost health coverage until after the election. Republicans knew an affordability crisis was inevitable by making the largest cuts to health care in U.S. history, but they didn’t care. After rubber stamping the ‘big ugly’ billionaire tax scam, Senator Sullivan and Rep. Begich are only mad that the consequences for working people came sooner than was politically convenient.”
