Washington D.C. – Just days into the deeply unpopular and deadly Trump war with Iran, the administration is reportedly ready to ask Congress for $50 billion in extra “emergency cash” to fuel the preemptive military campaign with no end in sight. That’s likely just for starters. The looming request for Congress to fund the Trump Iran war raise a serious question of priorities for U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ-7) who helped Trump make the largest health care cuts in U.S. history: How is there always money for Republican wars overseas, but not health care for Americans back home?
Rep. Kean backed the Big Ugly Law that slashed over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the ACA to fund wasteful tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations while costs skyrocket for everyone else. The consequences are just beginning: 15 million Americans are losing coverage, premiums have soared for more than 20 million people, rural hospitals are cutting services or closing their doors, and too many families are being forced to choose between prescriptions, medical care, and other basic necessities.
“Republicans like Rep. Tom Kean claim we can’t afford quality, affordable health care for Americans or to keep rural hospitals open. But somehow Trump’s enablers in Congress always find the money for tax giveaways for billionaires and price-gouging corporations that never trickle down to anyone else – and more money for endless wars,” said Brad Woodhouse, President of Save My Care. “Will Tom Kean give Donald Trump a blank check for war in Iran after backing the most devastating health care cuts in history here at home? How’s he going to explain those warped priorities to New Jersey families and seniors suffering denials of care and punishing premium hikes and under the Big Ugly Law?”
