Washington D.C. – A broad, bipartisan chorus of doctors, scientists, medical experts, public health organizations and lawmakers are fiercely condemning Donald Trump’s new reckless and baseless executive order that demands that the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine for children be broken up into separate shots over several costly doctor visits based on completely disproven risks of autism. Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-NJ-7) is hiding in the corner silently on this life-or-death issue for New Jersey families.
“Donald Trump has zero scientific basis for spreading out these life-saving vaccines and increasing children’s exposure to harmful diseases,” said Save My Care spokesman Jeremy Funk. “Pushing parents to needlessly schedule multiple extra doctor visits can only lead to missed shots, longer vulnerability periods, and even higher medical bills. If Donald Trump’s ignorant decree is followed by state health departments, the end result will not be fewer children with autism, but far more in the ER or even a coffin. No matter how baseless, an anti-vax directive from the highest office in the land can only stir up more fear and confusion, drag down vaccination rates, and feed more outbreaks of preventable diseases like measles. Trump’s anti-vax agenda has gotten so serious and out-of-control, Rep. Tom Kean has a duty to speak out against his party’s leader in the interest of public health. If Trump’s accomplices in Congress like Rep. Kean refuse to rein in the anti-vaxxer-in-chief for putting kids in harm’s way, that makes them just as dangerous. But don’t hold your breath. Rep. Kean has been nothing but complicit in the administration’s anti-vax, anti-science, anti-public health ideology that’s given us everything from a record-breaking measles crisis to tens of thousands sickened with explosive diarrhea.”
