Washington, D.C. – Last summer, U.S. Reps. Gabe Evans (R-CO-8), Jeff Hurd (R-CO-3), Jeff Crank (R-CO-5), and Lauren Boebert (R-CO-4) proudly helped pass Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Law that robbed over $1 trillion from Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and ripped away tax credits that over 22 million Americans relied on to see a doctor when they’re sick – all to pay for another wasteful tax giveaway for billionaires and big corporations.
Now nearly a year later, real-life stories have poured in across the country from families and seniors suffering the consequences of the largest cuts to health care in U.S. history. To help spotlight their stories, “Faces of the GOP Health Care Crisis” was launched this week— a new hub where anyone can scroll and see an interactive state-by-state repository with over 400 testimonies from real Americans reeling from premium hikes, hospital closures, and coverage losses.
The stories sourced from hundreds of TV interviews, local news stories, and op-eds details how Americans are getting crushed by the burden of premiums that doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled, driving health costs up from hundreds to thousands of dollars a month. They raise alarm about the hundreds of hospitals now brink of collapse because of Republicans gutting Medicaid, which will cut off access to care for entire communities, kill thousands of jobs, and drag down local and state economies with it.
“Donald Trump and Republicans like Reps. Boebert, Evans, Hurd and Crank promised that gutting Medicaid and doling out more tax breaks to billionaires and greedy corporations would magically lower our costs — they lied,” said Brad Woodhouse, President of Save My Care. “All Republicans have to show for it is working Americans suffering the highest inflation in three years and health care premiums up to four times more expensive than the year before. Trump and his rubber-stamps like Reps. Boebert, Evans, Hurd and Crank now claim their historic health care cuts and the millions of Americans drowning in coverage costs is all a ‘hoax’. We’d rather take the word of real families making painful sacrifices to scrape by under the Republican-made health care affordability crisis.”
Because of the GOP’s premium hikes:
- One in three Americans skips meals or other needs to afford health care.
- One in six Americans who buy insurance on their own are worried they won’t be able to afford insurance at all in 2026.
- Over one million Americans have already dropped coverage entirely since January — a number that will continue to snowball as the GOP’s premium hikes force more and more financial trade-offs on families stretched to the brink.
