2018: Health Care in the New Year

By Jan 22, 2018 No Comments

2017 started just how it ended: a full-scale assault on health care by President Trump and Republicans in Congress. From their attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act to health care sabotage, they kept trying to dismantle protections for hardworking Americans. Enough is enough: it’s time to stop the Republican war on health care.

We keep fighting to protect the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Medicaid — because health care is the most important issue to Americans. In fact, nearly half of all Americans rate health care as their top concern in 2018. The ACA is more popular than ever, with 8.8 million people currently signed up for coverage through Open Enrollment.

But now, heading into the new year, Republicans are keeping up their efforts to sabotage health care. Poll after poll shows just how popular health care is – and what it means to American families.

  • Pew Research Center: Today, more Americans say that the ACA has had a positive impact on our country.
  • Associated Press/NORC: Health care is the top concern heading into 2018, with 48% of Americans listing it as the most important issue.
  • Washington Post: Voters in Virginia listed health care as their #1 issue during the gubernatorial race this past November, leading to the election of Ralph Northam.
  • AP/NORC: 70% of Americans disapprove of President Trump’s performance on health care more than any other issue.

As we kick of January, let’s make sure we keep fighting for what’s important: affordable, accessible health coverage for all Americans.
